Mr Gordon's Jubilee Poster
During FPS, Mrs Thumath assigned us a job to create a poster about Mr Gordon's childhood for the Jubilee. First, we interviewed Mr Gordon to gather information to start our poster. When we started our poster, it was hard to meet the deadline, but we managed to finish just in time!

Camp Doodle
As well as writing a camp PMI, camp matrix, and publishing our camp diary entry, we were also asked to draw a camp doodle after camp. I drew all the activities I did and the bivouac on the top left is a picture of my group's bivouac. My friends and I also did a puppet show on the camp skit night, so can you spot the picture of our puppet show background?

After going to camp, we were asked to draw a doodle about our camp experience. In this doodle, I have some pictures of the time that I went to the waterhole, some activities that I did, and more! Can you figure out some of the other camp activities I did from my doodle?

Flag of Brazil
This is the flag from Brazil. This is the country I will be in for our mini Olympics. We looked online to find a picture, drew it on the page and then shaded it in with our fingers. This flag is green, yellow and blue. It has lots of stars.

Maths Week
"Hurray! I got it correct!" I say excitedly. This week was Maths Week! At school, everyday on Math Week, we had a challenge. The challenges were, how long does it take for Mrs Waters take to get to school, how high Mr Gordon can jump, how far Miss Bateman can throw a tennis ball, how many grapes in a kilogram and how many jellybeans in a jar. Everyday, there was also an Olympic Maths Week Challenge about a New Zealand Olympic competitor. My favourite morning challenge was how high Mr Gordon could jump. Mr Gordon is approximately 1.9 metres tall. How high do you think he can jump with his hand up? Well, he jumped 2.73 metres high! Yes, 2.73 metres high! At the end of the week we had to give in a Maths Week homework challenge, which was either a poster, counting book for the Juniors or a board game. I made a counting book. On the title, the word 'counting' was pop-up. I also included a penguin playing on each page for the Juniors to find. Maths Week was a very fun week full of fun and challenges!

Maths Week Poster
Do you know what Maths Week is? It may sound like torture to you, but it is really fun! But where? you may ask. Sunnybrae Normal School of course, and we had a great time! Every morning in the notices there would be a daily maths estimation challenge, like how high Mr Gordon (our excellent teacher) can jump and how many grapes Mrs Waters bought in one kilo (315 grapes!!!). It's really worth it; if you guess the right number or somewhere close to it you win a prize! But altogether, the best bit was the maths homework challenge; creating a maths poster, game or book! I created a money poster with five items that you could buy from a supermarket with the prices above them. A cash register sat on one side of the page with the total amount of the items on it's screen. Below there was a question about that asked you how much change you would get if you paid $20, $50 and $100. It was so much fun creating it! Altogether I think that Maths Week was really fun. I can't wait to do another homework challenge again!

Anton's Post on Friday, 5 August 2016
Yay, National Scout scarf day! Anton and Luke wore both their scarfs today but unlike Luke, Anton wore his full uniform. This year is a big year in scouting because it is one hundred years of cubs. This morning we talked to our class about our badges you can get them. Also how you can swap some at camps. A big swapping camp is jota joti and scouts go on jamborees that last for nine nights. We do lots of knots and we use them on our camps.
Brains! A Neuroscientist Visits Sunnybrae!
Brains! On Thursday the 4 of August Room 13 went to look and learn about real brains in the Sunnybrae hall. The human brain apparently is as heavy as a third of your natural body weight. The neuroscientist said ” the more wrinkles you have in your brain the more smarter you are”. The brain we looked at was donated from a 72 year old man who said, ”When I die I want you to take my brain and use it for education”. The neuroscientist told us that your brain can stretch up to the size of the whole hall.
The second brain we looked at was a cross section of a brain (brain cut in half). The third brain we saw was a monkey brain and it was a medium sized monkey brain and it looked similar to a human brain. The fourth brain was a cat’s brain the cerebellum was big so that the cat can land on its feet when it jumps off high places. The fifth brain was a rat’s brain and the rat’s brain was quite small the brain. The rat brain sample was held in a special liquid in a sealed container so it wouldn’t fall apart. The rat brain was as big as a quarter of its body. It was a very interesting session and we felt very fortunate to have a neuroscientist visit and share the various examples of brains with us.

Yesterday we went to the Life Education Caravan. A person called Corrine taught us about our AWESOME brain. Listen to the fact. Your brain is the size of a cabbage. Also there was a red light we had to stop talking when it went on.

Today during lunchtime it rained. It was so heavy it caused flooding in some parts of the school! Mr Gordon has been at Sunnybrae for a long time and never seen flooding like this at school. After the rain stopped we went on a walk outside the Senior classrooms. There was a flood around our shelter and one outside Room 11 and little grooves that led the water to the drain. Oh No! It looks like it's going to rain again!

This week Room 13 has been working on animal enrichment activities. YanQi, Abbie and I have been working an enrichment task for a springbok. This activity encourages springbok to jump and exercise.
Seal Enrichment Activity
During the last couple of weeks in Room 13, we have been learning about animal enrichment. We have even been creating our own enrichment activity for an animal at the zoo after our recent visit to the Auckland Zoo. I created an enrichment activity for a seal, and it was a ball. The ball is made out of plastic, live fish, crushed ice and water. When the seal bites hard enough on the ball, the plastic coat will break, and the live fish along with the crushed ice and water will spill out. I chose live fish instead of dead fish because then the seals can chase the fish, and I know they like to be active.
Animal Enrichment
During the last couple of weeks we have been learning about animal enrichment. We were assigned to create and design a piece of animal enrichment for a specific animal. I created a item named The Food Pyramid that was designed for a Galapagos tortoise. It encourages the tortoise to push a 12 kilogram pyramid to help burn their weight because they can weigh up to 417 kilograms. It is the reason why they are slow because their legs can't lift up their body weight. If they push the object they will be rewarded with food.

Rippa Rugby-Sports Exchange
This is my teammates and I in front of Onepoto School about to play in the Cluster Sports Exchange - Rippa Rugby tournament.
Rippa Rugby - Cluster Sports Exchange 2016!
Rippa Rugby Cluster Sports
Yesterday we went to Onepoto School for a Rippa Rugby Tournament as part of our Cluster Sports Exchange. We had 7 matches and all 7 were challenging but we were undefeated. Our team had lots of fun playing rippa rugby because it was new for some people and we had new experiences playing as a team together against other schools. The most challenging team was Northcote but luckily the buzzer went just in time so we didn't lose.

Cool Books For Boys
Last night we held our Cool Books for Boys Evening. Our goal for the evening was to get boys switched onto reading and to read regularly. We had two guest speakers - author, illustrator, and story teller Stu Duval and our local librarian Lisa Dam who shared some cool books with us. All the boys that attended went into the draw to win a book and we also had the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of one of Stu Duval's books. It was a fun evening!

What is a Nogard?
What is a Nogard? Well, a Nogard is a imaginary creature and you had to listen carefully to visualise and create it. To make this Nogard we had to listen to some instructions like what the shape of the body, head, feet, eyes, eyebrows, claws, nostrils, neck and tail and even what colours it was in different seasons. People in my class did well. It was interesting to see how the various Nogard pictures ended up in different shapes and sizes fat and tall long and skinny.
by:Amir S
This is what we heard about the Nogard.
This is what we visualised and drew based on what we heard.

Healthy Lunch
To celebrate the end of the term and our Healthy Eating - Food for Thought unit we used our Pak'n Save voucher to purchase the ingredients for a healthy shared lunch. Mr Gordon was able to purchase all the ingredients to make some healthy sandwiches and students helped with preparing them. Students had to split the buns and pita bread, chop up the lettuce and celery, slice the cucumbers, and grate the carrots. Then students made their way along the table and could create their own healthy sandwich and select a piece of fruit for their lunch. It was a fun and healthy shared lunch! Thank you Pak'n Save !
Time Capsules in Room 13
As part of our homework students were asked to create and share their Time Capsule with the class. It was very interesting to see and hear what they included, and why they felt it should be in their Time Capsule. Can you see what was included? What would you include in your Time Capsule and when would you open it again?
