Anton's Post on Wednesday, 29 June 2016

Today during lunchtime it rained. It was so heavy it caused flooding in some parts of the school! Mr Gordon has been at Sunnybrae for a long time and never seen flooding like this at school. After the rain stopped we went on a walk outside the Senior classrooms. There was a flood around our shelter and one outside Room 11 and little grooves that led the water to the drain. Oh No! It looks like it's going to rain again!

This week Room 13 has been working on animal enrichment activities. YanQi, Abbie and I have been working an enrichment task for a springbok. This activity encourages springbok to jump and exercise.

Seal Enrichment Activity

During the last couple of weeks in Room 13, we have been learning about animal enrichment. We have even been creating our own enrichment activity for an animal at the zoo after our recent visit to the Auckland Zoo. I created an enrichment activity for a seal, and it was a ball. The ball is made out of plastic, live fish, crushed ice and water. When the seal bites hard enough on the ball, the plastic coat will break, and the live fish along with the crushed ice and water will spill out. I chose live fish instead of dead fish because then the seals can chase the fish, and I know they like to be active.

Animal Enrichment

During the last couple of weeks we have been learning about animal enrichment. We were assigned to create and design a piece of animal enrichment for a specific animal. I created a item named The Food Pyramid that was designed for a Galapagos tortoise. It encourages the tortoise to push a 12 kilogram pyramid to help burn their weight because they can weigh up to 417 kilograms. It is the reason why they are slow because their legs can't lift up their body weight. If they push the object they will be rewarded with food.

This is my teammates and I in front of Onepoto School about to play in the Cluster Sports Exchange - Rippa Rugby tournament.

Rippa Rugby - Cluster Sports Exchange 2016!

Rippa Rugby Cluster Sports

Yesterday we went to Onepoto School for a Rippa Rugby Tournament as part of our Cluster Sports Exchange. We had 7 matches  and all 7 were challenging but we were undefeated. Our team had lots of fun playing rippa rugby because it was new for some people and we had new experiences playing as a team together against other schools. The most challenging team was Northcote but luckily the buzzer went just in time so we didn't lose.
