Food for Thought - Inquiry

As part of our Food for Thought inquiry unit that explores healthy eating, we reviewed a series of images from the book 'The Hungry Planet: What the World Eats' by Peter Menzel and Faith D'Aluision. It is a wonderful way, to better understand what families from around the world eat in a week through these pictures. Click on this link to see what other cultures eat in a week. The picture below is what a Canadian family eats in a week. Mr Gordon is looking for the Maple Syrup, can you see it?

World Read Aloud !

As part of the World Read Aloud Day we had a skype call this morning from a classroom in C.E. Miller Elementary School in Westmont, Illinois, USA. The students read us a story called Larry Got Lost in Chicago because they live near the city of Chicago.

Earlier in the week we read them a story called Kapai and the City of Sails as it reviewed landmarks in our local community. The students enjoyed asking each other questions and we have agreed to keep in touch during the year.

World Read Aloud Day

Today was World Read Aloud Day and Room 13 took part by reading a story to a class in Glendale, Illinois in USA via Skype. It was a wonderful way to start the day and we will be speaking again with them on Friday when they read a story to our class. This is an excellent way to share the love of reading around the world.

Using Google Maps we were able to see the location of our schools and how far apart we are!

Today we had a trip to our local supermarket as part of our Food for Thought healthy eating programme. We are learning to read the labels on the packaging to help us decide if an item is healthy or not.
